WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
MusiCares is seeking an experienced Communications Manager, driven to serve and support the mission of music’s leading charity, to join its Marketing & Communications team.
This analytical, digital PR-savvy, music-loving communications professional with superior writing and editing skills will help with the non-profit’s PR initiatives, promotional campaigns, and events.
The Communications Manager will work on all stages of the communications cycle—from messaging to activation to analysis—and will address internal, industry trade, and consumer audiences.
WHAT YOU'LL DO Draft and edit press materials including internal and external announcements, pitch letters, media alerts, key messages, briefing documents, fact sheets, and executive bios.
Develop and execute innovative, creative and unique approaches to digital PR.
Pitch and secure stories in consumer, business, and industry trade outlets.
Establish, update, and execute communications strategies to increase brand awareness, expand audiences, and promote the organization and mission in a positive and impactful way.
Supervise projects to guarantee all content is publication-ready.
Route incoming press requests and manage assets and elements to meet story deadlines.
Conduct information gathering and coordinate necessary assets from internal and external sources to develop materials, fact sheets, and press stories.
Develop and distribute materials that convey the organization's policies and/or position.
Monitor industry and relevant social news to help guide and inform responses and messaging for MusiCares and its stakeholders and keep informed on latest industry communication tools through consistent upgradation of qualification and skills.
Coordinate publicity elements for a wide-range of events, such as concerts and red carpets.
Monitor, analyze, and report media coverage to stakeholders.
Provide communications counsel and support to internal teams and leadership as needed; may include preparation of written materials and support of public speaking engagements and presentations.
Liaise with internal staff, talent, partners, and sponsors to cross-promote and manage publicity of digital programming, Health & Human services programs, partnerships, and events.
Ideate and execute executive visibility and thought leadership opportunities – both industry and consumer facing.
Support and create strategies for ongoing brand clarity efforts.
Lead and execute publicity strategy for annual Person of the Year gala, including red carpet management.
Devise and manage publicity efforts to build, strengthen and maintain industry relationships and awareness across all genres and regions, engaging the whole music ecosystem and establishing MusiCares as music’s leading charity.
Work collaboratively with Recording Academy Communications department to ensure announcements align with master calendar and best practices and are approved by leadership.
Create and maintain comprehensive records of projects, plans, and timelines.
Contribute to special projects as needed.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 5+ years' experience in Communications or Public Relations, with significant history in corporate communications and digital PR Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing or related field Passion for MusiCares mission and desire for a career in service Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media Proactive, problem-solving attitude Ability to manage competing priorities and successfully deal with last-minute changes Communicates well both verbally and in writing, with strong grammar, editing, and proofreading skills, shares information and ideas with others, has good listening skills, builds strong relationships, consistently demonstrates positive and professional demeanor, negotiates effectively Must be a confident communicator and presenter Has excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
