*ABOUT THE FOUNDATION:*
The Mr.
Holland’s Opus Foundation was inspired by the acclaimed motion picture _Mr.
Holland’s Opus,_ the story of the profound effect a dedicated music teacher had on generations of students.
The film's composer, Michael Kamen, started the foundation in 1996 as his commitment to the future of music education.
The Foundation keeps music alive in our schools by donating musical instruments to under-funded music programs, and vital support services to school districts nationwide, giving economically-disadvantaged youth access to the many benefits of music education, leading them to success in school, and inspiring creativity and expression through playing music.
*General Summary:*
The Development Director will work with the CEO, Board of Directors, and fundraising support staff to increase individual, institutional, and corporate giving to meet the financial goals of the Foundation.
The Foundation supports a small and efficient staff in a casual and open atmosphere.
MHOF is in a growth phase, hiring key employees who want a long-term commitment to delightful and meaningful work in music education.
The Development Director will build relationships with a strong existing donor base and identify new opportunities and creative strategies for growth.
*Qualifications:*
A minimum of five (5) years of fundraising experience.
Proficient in public speaking and able to clearly express ideas and represent the values and programs of the foundation.
Experience managing others in a department.
Excellent writing skills.
Strong experience in grant writing with successful proposal outcomes.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency using donor management software.
Enjoy meeting new people and building relationships.
Background in music education or in working with an arts-related organization is preferred.
*Responsibilities:*
* Advance fund development by insuring the continued growth of a diverse and stable base of support from all sources.
Meet budget goals currently in the $1.
5 M- $2M range, with expectations to increase that goal in the next three years.
* Work with staff and board to research and identify new prospects, plan face-to-face meetings and cultivation events, and perform follow-up activities focusing on growing the donor base and major gifts ($5,000+).
* Assist with social media, communications, follow-up calling, mailings, event planning, and other activities related to building strong donor relationships and enhancing donor confidence in the organization.
* Coordinate and oversee donor communications including appeal letters, newsletters, email messaging.
* Expand fundraising to include a robust monthly giving program, cultivation events, corporate sponsorships, and creative options to engage existing and future donors.
* Manage marketing and promotion of the foundation along with staff support.
* Provide full range of skills associated with fund development including grant writing and reporting, creating budgets, creating and executing a development plan, reports to board members, and department volunteer management.
*Hours And Benefits*
Hours: Full time, exempt, 40 hours/week.
Location: Burbank, California
Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000 DOE
Excellent Benefits: Full-time employees are eligible for paid time off, sick leave, and paid holidays.
Medical, dental, and vision insurance is offered with 80% of the insurance premium covered by employer.
New employees are eligible to participate in our 403(b) plan immediately with employer matching effective 60 days after hire.
