One is collaborating with a major international law firm in their search for a Staff Attorney in their Santa Monica, CA office.
This position is part of the firm’s Litigation and E-Discovery Services group and provides support related to the discovery of electronically stored information in litigation.
The Staff Attorney has strong experience with electronic discovery review platforms and document review workflows.
In addition to performing substantive document review, this attorney manages teams of temporary contract attorneys and provides project management support to the firm’s case teams.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Planning, conducting, and supervising strategic document review and production
Providing guidance and legal support to case teams with document review process management, including preparing review playbooks, review protocols, training reviewers, supervising reviews, privilege review processes and communicating effectively with case teams and vendors regarding project status, issues, and timelines
Advising attorneys and clients on best practices and procedures related to ESI search and review in litigation, regulatory investigations, and other matters
Coordinating with the Firm’s Director of Contract Professionals regarding the hiring and administrative aspects of temporary review attorneys
Managing teams of temporary review attorneys, including tracking metrics and providing feedback on performance, quality control, and other issues as they arise
Performing substantive document review hosted in Relativity and other document review platforms
Reviewing and coding documents for relevance, issues, confidentiality, and privilege
Performing privilege review and redactions, and assisting with preparation of privilege logs
Performing targeted searches to assist case teams with fact development and deposition preparation
Coordinating with other LEDS staff to perform final quality control and to confirm proper workflows have been followed
Recommending strategies and helping design defensible and cost-effective document review plans
Assisting case teams with keyword development, document sampling and other strategies to reduce document review costs
Staying current on developing E-Discovery law and procedures, including, the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and applicable state rules regarding privilege and proportionality
Coordinating and working collaboratively with LEDS analysts, managers and trial services specialists
Ensuring firm policies and procedures are followed to manage risk and costs
Working closely with department management regarding strategic direction of electronic discovery services to improve services, increase efficiency and reduce risk and cost
Traveling to other offices and client sites as necessary and directed by LEDS management
Ensuring accurate and timely entry of billable and non-billable time and reviewing time entries prior to month-end closing
Required Qualifications:
JD Degree
2+ years as a Staff Attorney, Litigation Attorney or E-Discovery attorney at a law firm performing and managing complex litigation document reviews and electronic discovery projects
Active member in good standing of the California state bar
Experience with relational document review databases such as Relativity
All candidates must be able to work at a computer screen for a sustained amount of time
Preferred Qualifications:
Mandarin language skills are a plus
Experience working for an E-Discovery service provider
Some electronic discovery certification or specialized training
