Mott MacDonald is looking to appoint a senior project controls person in Los Angeles who will support and lead project controls for multiple small and medium sized projects on the west coast of the US as part of the Business Operations team in our West Unit.
This will include the development and implementation of good practice project controls processes aligned with Mott MacDonald’s business and financial management system, and setting-up and monitoring of small and medium size projects.
Experience is required in developing, monitoring, and updating of integrated project plans and schedules; estimate and forecasting of project costs; and provide analyses to support claims negotiations.
This individual will also support the development of further capabilities, improvements in and staff training.
Duties and Responsibilities Development and implementation of project controls processes Provide leadership of good practice project controls Lead the development of project controls processes aligned with the business and financial management system for small and medium size projects Provide guidance and assist with set-up of project controls for new projects.
Monitor the implementation of project controls processes and provide guidance where improvements are required Report to the Unit Commercial Manager on the development and implementation of project controls processes Large Fee Estimates Lead the planning, set-up, and execution of large fee estimates Oversee the development of teaming agreements with teaming partners Develop benchmarks to check fee estimates Develop and maintain database of large fee estimates and actual projects Develop strategies for fee negotiations and support negotiations Report to the Unit Commercial Manager on large fee estimates Scheduling-related duties (when required on projects) Oversee the updating of the project schedules by schedulers to ensure the timely transfer of schedule information.
Review with schedulers actual progress versus planned progress to determine trends.
Assess the impact of critical path and near-critical activities and report same to project management.
Oversee the analyses of trends and develop options for corrective action, to include performing an analysis upon various alternatives and presenting recommendations to project management.
Ensure that schedule progress trends and schedule changes are communicated to project management.
Present and answer questions on project and program schedule at project meetings.
Cost Engineering-related duties (when required) Oversee the analysis, review, and forecast, on project cost performance, including the status of committed costs against approved budgets.
Assist in the development of options for corrective action, to include performing an analysis upon various alternatives and presenting recommendations to contract and project management.
Attend project management meetings and be prepared to discuss issues and answer questions relevant to project costs, commitments, and forecasts.
Prepare written, tabular, and graphic reports that communicate project cost status periodically and as required.
Undertake and oversee progress evaluations in our project management systems.
Claims/change order negotiation support (when required on projects) Support the project teams in change order administration.
Support the project teams in assessing claims for additional cost and / or time extensions.
Maintain a schedule of potential claims/change orders of the project manager Support the development of and support negotiates of claims/change orders.
Candidate Specification Minimum Qualifications Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in engineering, construction management, industrial management, or business.
8 years of experience in construction management work will be considered a substitute for the degree requirement.
In addition, have at least 15 years’ experience in project controls on capital infrastructure projects and architecture and engineering services.
Hold certification with either AACE International or the Project Management Institute.
Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Expert user of MS Office 365, specifically MS Excel.
Working knowledge of SharePoint and PowerBi.
Salary Range: 104,000-180,000 Benefits: 401k, medical, dental and vision insurance, STD/LTD disability, holiday, vacation and sick time, parental leave and company paid life insurance.
