OPPORTUNITY The Grant Writer has a critical role in supporting Green Dot’s mission to prepare students for college, leadership, and life.
The Grant Writer will work closely with the rest of the Development Team and organizational leadership to secure grants from private and public entities in support of Green Dot’s mission.
The Grant Writer is responsible for identifying potential grant opportunities, writing strong grant proposals, and developing progress updates, in collaboration with the Grants Compliance Associate as appropriate.
This position is part of the Development Team and reports to the Grants Manager.
This is a role serving as part of Green Dot California’s central office team, primarily based in Los Angeles.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES > Conduct qualifying research for new prospects and leads, generating funder profiles that detail aligned missions and funding priorities.
Advise the Development Team on prospect and/or opportunity alignment to determine whether to add to active prospects.
> Conduct research into community demographics, resources, and needs to develop compelling cases for giving aligned to Green Dot’s priorities.
> Collaborate with stakeholders and program managers on program codification for Green Dot funding priorities, including the development of sound logic models, rationales, performance metrics, data stories, and budgets.
> Project manage the grant proposal process.
Work closely with Green Dot program managers and finance staff to collect necessary data, program, and budget details.
Break down applications and requests for proposals and create project plans that provide opportunities for all relevant team members to provide feedback and ensure timely submission.
> Draft high-quality briefing documents, letters of inquiry, proposals and supporting materials aligned to funders’ formatting and content requirements and scoring rubrics.
> Schedule and lead grant hand-off and check-in meetings to monitor progress of active grants, regularly update program expenses vs.
budgets, and progress toward goals.
> In collaboration with the Grants Compliance Associate, maintain grant compliance by submitting timely, comprehensive interim and final reports to funders.
> Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of grant submissions and active grants in CRM.
> Take on ad hoc projects as needed to advance Green Dot’s org-wide Development goals.
QUALIFICATIONS As an ideal candidate, you: > have a bachelor’s degree required (relevant master’s degree preferred).
> have a minimum of 2 years of grant writing experience - preferably with an education focus; 3+ years preferred.
> can demonstrate analytical and persuasive writing skills, including the ability to convey complex information in a clear manner to a diverse audience.
> possess knowledge of the principles and practices of writing successful grants > are well-organized, detail-oriented, and determined to succeed.
> are able to prioritize multiple assignments, handle complex tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
> have excellent interpersonal skills, ability to effectively engage with donors and staff at all levels.
> are able to understand the needs and interests of major funding organizations in order to communicate the short and long-term goals and priorities of GDPS in a manner that is aligned.
> are able to analyze and synthesize data and information from multiple sources.
> adhere to the highest ethical standards, demonstrate an empathetic disposition and perseverance; use discretion and good judgment; reflect an optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to the needs of the donors.
> have 1-2 years of project management experience and a record of strong and creative problem-solving.
> possess a high level of initiative, creativity, and energy.
> are knowledgeable of office and productivity software sufficient to function smoothly in a highly technology-based environment (including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and Internet applications).
> have Salesforce or relevant CRM experience (preferred but not required).
> are able to handle problems as they occur, and follow through on all aspects of the position.
