Summary: The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) is an essential member of the café’s operation.
The ASM ensures Alfred standards and employee conduct is always upheld.
It is the ASM’s responsibility to ensure each guest has the best possible experience.
The ASM helps support the Cafe Manager by handling many of the daily managerial tasks, and is responsible for all café operations when the Cafe Manager is not on duty.
They are responsible for managing day-to-day store operations, overseeing a staff that consistently crafts excellent coffee beverages, and fosters a welcoming environment which provides efficient and hospitable service for both customers and fellow team members.
The ASM sets the tone and personality of a store through careful management of employee training, hospitality standards, product knowledge, encouraging safe work practices, and demonstrating a commitment to the house policies specified in the Alfred Employee Handbook, Operating Handbook, and Hospitality Handbook.
Responsibilities: Coaches, supports, and recognizes employee needs by providing performance feedback and disciplinary action when necessary, leads by example at all times, on and off the floor.
Promotes and practices safe work habits, identifying and resolving potential safety hazards, operational inconsistencies and any team member or customer incidents.
Documents accidents, conducts initial investigation and determination of root cause in the interest of maintaining a safe work environment.
Assists with new employee training via performance evaluation, positive reinforcement, and providing detailed feedback to the Cafe Manager.
Develops positive rapport with employees through a keen understanding of individual motivation, needs, and concerns, proactively solves customer problems and positively satisfies customer needs in various situations.
Ensures all team members are committed to and abide by the policies specified in the Alfred Employee Handbook, Operating Handbook, and Hospitality Handbook.
Continually develops employee skills, establishing specific performance objectives, and measuring team member performance regularly.
Assists Cafe Manager with proper schedule coverage.
Complete schedule according to the needs of business while maintaining target operational and labor costs.
Post schedule 2 weeks in advance.
Assists Cafe Manager in executing and communicating all sales promotions and new product information effectively and efficiently and with identifying staffing, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training needs of qualified candidates.
Helps facilitate on-going training and development of current staff.
Helps assess staffing needs based on business flow, sending employees home or calling for additional staff as needed.
Ensures all employees clock in and out at beginning and end of shift and unpaid lunch breaks.
Anticipates customer and café needs through careful evaluation of environment and customer cues and ensures all team members provide customers with excellent hospitality on a consistent basis.
Consistently monitors company service standards and employee performance.
Provides regular performance reports to the Cafe Manager and executive management team Provides scheduling assistance in effort to help keep the café fully staffed at all times.
Efficiently manages orders from the Alfred app and third-party app operations.
Fosters a positive work environment, and teamwork to achieve store goals and sales results.
Resolves guest, employee, store organizational and maintenance issues in a timely fashion, ensuring each and every product delivered to our guests meets Alfred’s quality standards.
Maintains a clean, organized, well-merchandised store, following company standards.
Assists in placing, receiving, and verifying orders; conducting regular inventory; controlling waste, and dating and rotating inventory when necessary.
Sets the standard for outstanding hospitality and customer service, and takes responsibility for the service executed by employees at his/her store.
Maintains high cleanliness standards throughout the store in the areas of store appearance, merchandising, and equipment maintenance.
Provides ongoing training and development to all team members in the areas of operating standards, customer service, and product knowledge.
Coaches and counsels team members for improved performance, documenting developmental plans for the Cafe Manager and executive management team.
Ensures that Alfred drink recipes and procedures are followed, maintaining the highest quality and consistent product standards, ensuring the highest quality.
Ensures that all team members are educated about our products and services.
Develops an understanding of Alfred coffee and tea blends and roasts, as well as knowledge of coffee and tea origins, and the various differences in flavor and blends.
Tastes drink and food products on a per shift basis for quality assurance.
Support the Alfred Management Team by assisting with supervision of a team of ten to fifteen employees.
Assists the Cafe Manager and executive management team in increasing profit, sales, and controlling expenses by ensuring upkeep of store and equipment.
Also assists the Cafe Manager with banking andcash drop responsibilities.
Oversees all cash management functions.
Able to perform all POS duties, front and back of house functions including opening and closing procedures.
Works a varied schedule based on cafe and team needs.
Maintains excellent and consistent attendance and punctuality.
Where applicable, Food Program Responsibilities Develops an understanding of food handling and health safety procedures.
Understands and is able to explain to customers the various types of sandwiches, toasts, and bagels offered.
Restocks, cleans, and organizes prep space when necessary.
Promptly assists in the distribution and organization of deliveries.
Immediately reports potential safety hazards to the manager on duty.
What You’ll Need: Regularly required to stand, walk, and listen to customers and co-workers.
Regularly required to lift and/or move items up to 30 pounds.
Regularly required to handle food and hot beverages.
Possess a valid California food handler’s card.
Minimum one year of retail or specialty coffee experience.
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Successfully completes all Alfred training and Espresso/Milk courses.
Works with a team-oriented approach driven by solutions.
Work a varied schedule based on business needs.
