Hi, I am selling my beloved 1976 DownEaster 38' Bluewater Sailing Yacht.
It is large and roomy inside and has a full keel.
It was built to Lloyd's of London Marine Specifications.
It sleeps 7, has solid Burmese teak interior, full selection of sails, 130 and 160 Genoa, Mainsail and a $5,000 Spinnaker.
To port is a full Galley with 3 burner Propane Stove and gimballed Oven, Stainless Double Sink, Refrigerators built into the counters, lots of Storage and Counter Space, Hot Water Heater, House and Starting Battery Banks, when it was repowered in 2008, the starter, and wiring harness was all replaced.
To Starboard is the Aft Quarter Berth, then Teak Navigation Station with Chartplotting Desk, Breaker Box below, then Salon Setee with sleeping bunk, double bunk across to port, adjustable coffee/dining table, teak/holly sole throughout, child's berth above to starboard, full head and shower to port, with lots of storage, cabinets, bookcase and storage lockers, Dual Hanging Lockers on both sides as you enter the
Captain's Doorway into the Roomy VBerth, and there is also an enclosed Anchor Locker at the very front.
The boat has had the hull repainted with Awl Grip and all exterior teak has recently been coated with fresh UV varnish.
The chainplates were taken over the side and the entire deck was popped and resealed before I purchased her for a cost of $25,000 by the previous owner.
She is dry as a bone inside.
There is a Forward Hatch above the VBerth, Butterfly Hatch above the Salon/Forward Berth, and 6 inch solid teak varnished Caprails all the way around.
All Deck hardware including cleats, chocks and turnbuckles are bronze, running rigging and standing rigging is heavily built, tight and are thick stainless steel heavy duty shrouds.
She also has a gorgeous solid teak varnished Bow Sprit, with Stainless Steel Dolphin Striker.
Full Ground Tackle includes 2 authentic Scottish CQR 35 pound anchors for bow and stern with 50 feet of 3/8" chain
on each and 400 feet of rode on each.
Flatscreen Sharp Aquos TV, and Interior and Exterior CD Sound System.
There is a Raytheon Raymarine Chartplotter and Stainless Mounting Bracket for up in front of the Mast, Stainless Boarding ladders included.
Depending on the final sale price, a nice Dinghy Tender and Lehr 3.
5HP Propane Outboard will be included as well as lots of additional safety equipment like man overboard poles, lifeslings, lifejackets, boat hooks etc.
and many, many extras once I have gotten all of my personal items off of the Vessel.
I have owned the Vessel for 17 years, DownEaster 38's, are very respected sailing yachts and highly sought after.
This one is all original, the engine was repowered in 2007, with a 61 HP Peugeot Lehman 3 Cylinder Diesel, full installation by Leif Johannsen, but it currently needs work.
She is a beautiful vessel that shows pride of ownership with her wineglass transom, and aft deck teak steamer chaise lounge recliners, sunbrella canvas awning and sailcovers.
She is in the single best slip in all of Marina Del Rey next to The Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club and the Park with unparalleled, breathtaking views of the Main Channel, Mountains and Sunsets.
It is towards the end of the dock, just 3 in from the end tie, on the second dock from The Main Channel.
The slip would be transferable upon Dockmaster's Approval.
It is a USCG Documented Vessel.
Come take a look, you will fall in love with her.
Best, John

is 41 feet, Displacement is 26,500 pounds, 13 tons, 11'10" beam, Draft is 5 feet.
Prop is protected within the keel, Cutter rigged sloop(means additional forestay for a Staysail(Storm Sail).
Club footed head boom for easy tacking.
She was designed by renowned Naval Architect Henry Morschladt in Santa Ana, California between 1974 and 1983 which qualifies her for chartering in US Waters.
Henry also owned and designed Cabo Fishing Boats.
She is a boat you can sail around the world on.
When asked about her design, Henry exclaimed "I designed a one bedroom luxury apartment and then built a Bluewater Yacht around her!".
She can take a beating, she is unimpressed with light winds, this is a salty old school sailing yacht, extremely well founded, they do not build boats like this anymore.
To build this yacht today would easily exceed a million dollars because of how overbuilt she is for safety and peace of mind.
Lots of interior handholds and current owner has added lots of thoughtful traditional teak and
brass additions in keeping with her classic build.
Ask any real sailor and they will immediately say, "DownEasters? Oh, that's a very, very good boat!"
