JOB TYPE: Full-Time LOCATION: Hybrid (Pomona, CA Office 1 day/week, Site visits as needed) COMPENSATION: Up to $160k starting salary for the right candidate, other compensation to be discussed during offer stage.
POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Substation Electrical Engineer to join the Paxon team and play a pivotal role in the design, analysis, and optimization of substations.
As a Substation Electrical Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the safety, stability, and reliability of proposed and installed electrical substation electrical infrastructure.
Your expertise will contribute to the successful implementation of high-voltage electrical projects and the delivery of sustainable energy solutions.
What you will be responsible for: (Disclaimer: The lists below are not all inclusive) You will be working directly under the supervision of the Electrical Operations Manager Design and Planning: Develop detailed designs for electrical substations, considering factors such as voltage levels, equipment specifications, and safety standards.
Collaborate with other engineers and professionals to ensure the integration of substations into the overall power system.
Equipment Selection and Specification: Select and specify the appropriate electrical equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and protective relays, based on project requirements.
Ensure that equipment meets industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Project Management: Manage and coordinate substation projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.
Testing and Commissioning: Develop testing procedures and protocols for new or upgraded substation equipment.
Oversee the commissioning process to ensure that equipment operates as intended and meets performance specifications.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Develop and implement maintenance programs for substation equipment to ensure reliability and longevity.
Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues in substations, coordinating repairs and replacements, as necessary.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations governing substation design and operation.
Work with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary approvals and permits.
Safety and Environmental Compliance: Implement safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for substation personnel.
Consider environmental impact and compliance with environmental regulations in substation design and operations.
Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain documentation, including drawings, specifications, and records related to substation design and performance.
Prepare and submit reports on substation activities, including maintenance, testing, and performance assessments.
Training and Development: Provide training to substation personnel on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
Stay informed about innovative technologies and industry best practices through ongoing professional development.
Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans for substation incidents.
Coordinate with relevant authorities and organizations to respond to and mitigate emergencies effectively.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, departments, and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS: You must have the following: (Minimum) Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field with a focus on electrical engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on high-voltage substations Proven experience in the design and analysis of substation design, including maintenance, testing, and commissioning.
Proficiency in electrical engineering principles and using software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, PSCAD or similar tools.
Strong understanding of relevant industry codes and standards, including IEEE, IEC, ASCE, and ACI.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical documentation and project coordination.
Complies with, enforces safety standards, and understands client Transmission, Distribution, and Contractor Safety Handbook requirements.
If you have the following it will be a big plus: (Preferred) Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification in electrical engineering is preferred.
