Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced full-time Promotora with excellent communication and customer service skills to work in our Downtown Los Angeles Headquarters office, as well as in Los Angeles County.
The Promotora Comunitaria is uniquely qualified as a community health worker who will educate the parent and adult community through local schools and partner organizations by conducting curriculum-based health education workshops on sexuality and reproductive health, mental health and substance abuse prevention designed for the LA County Department of Public Health School Wellbeing Centers partnership (LACDPH SWBC), as well as other curricula that Promotoras teach in the field.

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications: Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers, and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPLA locations, and by all PPLA employees.
Supporting these critical services is an essential job duty, and a fundamental responsibility of all employees and contractors.
High school diploma, GED or 5+ years’ experience in reproductive health, family planning or related health field required.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred, Spanish required.
Experience in outreach or field work throughout the community in areas such as schools, community centers, churches.
Must have strong Latino / bicultural background experience and experience working or familiarity with the Latino community.
Demonstrated interest in educating others.
Must have good communication skills with an aptitude for public speaking.
Strong commitment to the mission of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles.
Open and positive attitude about human sexuality, gender equality and human rights.
Commitment to and strong interest in helping people regardless of gender, sexual orientation, nationality, age, immigration or socio-economic status.
Ability to follow all program protocols, curriculum and standards.
Availability to attend meetings, trainings and to facilitate workshops.
Ability to work independently and manage time to complete goals by due date Must have good communication skills with an aptitude for public speaking.
Ability to facilitate presentations to diverse groups in Spanish.
Ability to provide outreach and networking in their communities and willing to travel.
Ability to deal with and speak in public about sensitive topics including comprehensive sexuality, STIs, FDA approved birth control methods, substance abuse.
Must be able to meet Los Angeles County background check requirements via Live Scan fingerprint clearance.
Must supply documentation of completed negative TB screen within 60 days prior to start Ability and willingness to travel within Los Angeles County.
Reliable means of transportation for onsite and off-site work.
If using a personal vehicle to drive for work purposes, a valid CA driver license and current auto insurance in compliance with the minimum requirements of CA vehicle code are required.
About the position: Successful completion of PPLA’s Promotoras Comunitarias Training Program.
Provide education in sexuality and reproductive health, mental health and substance abuse prevention to the community following the curriculum and guides designed for the LACDPH SWBC, as well as other curricula that Promotoras teach in the field.
With supervisor approval, identify and participate in community outreach, events, and activities to promote the health and PPLA’s clinical services.
Perform the services in designated area, schools and or community partner locations.
Maintain a resource guide at all times to provide the community with information/services available to them that may or may not be related to health.
Accuracy and attention to detail when completing administrative tasks.
Keep current of reproductive health and sexuality education, mental health and substance abuse issues, and attend any PPLA trainings and professional development workshops.
Advocate for reproductive health in various settings, as needed.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor, Promotoras Comunitarias Program or Director of Community Education.
