Job Duties/Responsibilities A Food Service Manager II operates an elementary school cafeteria with a minimum average daily meals served of 950, with responsibility for the supervision of a cafeteria operation and for preparing and serving food in a variety of feeding programs, such as breakfast, lunch, and bag meals for other locations without cafeterias.
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to: -Maintaining prescribed food quality, sanitation, and safety standards -Requesting services for pest control, equipment repair and replacement, and maintaining service records -Supervising and participating in the processing of applications for free and reduced-price meals -Maintaining rosters and records related to reimbursed meals -Supervising, training, and evaluating the work performance of food service employees and student workers Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency and evidence of successful completion of adult school, college-level, or equivalent classes in supervision.
EXPERIENCE: One year of experience in commercial or institutional quantity food preparation, including the serving of a major meal component of at least 300 meals per day.
Six months of experience supervising, training, and evaluating the work performance of other food service employees or six months as a Senior Food Service Worker is required.
An additional six months of experience supervising, training, and evaluating the work performance of other food service employees may be substituted for the supervision class requirement.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: -A valid "ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certificate” issued by the National Restaurant Association or equivalent.
-A valid Los Angeles Unified School District Food Handler’s Heath Certificate.
-A valid California Driver License and use of an automobile may be required for some positions.
-Successful completion of a two-week Managers Certification Course (MCC) upon initial assignment.
Desirable Qualifications The IDEAL candidates are those who demonstrate the following: Extensive knowledge of and skill in food preparation, food ordering, record keeping, hygiene, sanitation, and safety; strong supervision skills in evaluating food service workers; outstanding organizational skills and resourcefulness necessary for managing a busy school cafeteria; strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation; an excellent attendance and dependability record; strong initiative in implementing new procedures; an ability to operate a computer and software programs commonly used in business settings; and an ability to utilize a point of sale system.
Employment Selection Process The selection process tentatively consists of a qualifying computer-based multiple-choice test covering the following topics: cafeteria math/record keeping, reading comprehension, food service knowledge, supervision, and customer focus.
Candidates who are successful on this portion of the assessment, and meet the minimum requirements for this position, will be invited to a technical interview, which accounts for 100% of the overall assessment score.
RETAKE POLICY: In accordance with our assessment retake policy, candidates who have taken the Food Service Manager Series multiple-choice test, which includes the assessment for Food Service Manager I - VII, within the last four (4) months will not be allowed to participate in the computer-based multiple-choice test.
Instead, these test scores will be applied toward the current assessment.
In addition, candidates who received a successful score on all parts of the computer-based multiple-choice test for any Food Service Manager series classification, within a period of one year from the time the assessment for this recruitment is administered, will have their scores applied toward the current employment assessment.
All other candidates will be required to take the multiple-choice test.
