Perform high complexity clinical laboratory procedures to include Aerobic and Anaerobic bacteriology, molecular microbiology and mycology .
Possess ability to exercise good independent judgment.
Assumes responsibilities for daily department operations and Quality control management in compliance of Hospital policy and procedure and applicable regulatory requirement (State and Federal laws).
Assist Laboratory Director in process improvement, operational efficiency, high quality of service and strategic planning to meet operational needs.
Summary: Demonstrating ability to engage in regular and continuous decision making having an impact on people, costs and quality of service Exercising responsibility for recommending personnel actions, hiring, disciplinary, dismissal, appraising performance, and training.
May include staff adjustments during census drops Be able to delegate, but assume full responsibility for valid results and review Is familiar with laws and regulations for state and federal agencies, and College of American Pathologist (CAP).
On a documented schedule, reviewing and assuming responsibility for maintaining required department documents/files and procedure manuals Developing new procedures and updates old procedures as needed.
Rotating through weekend call with other Supervisors Demonstrating knowledge of laboratory computer system regarding ordering, reporting, and verifying results and downtime computer procedures Setting up quality control standardization and calibration procedures that monitor instruments applying acceptability criteria.
Executing predefined plans of action in response to quality control and documents actions Troubleshooting malfunctioning test systems/instruments.
Instituting corrective action for any problems in the laboratory.
Processing samples and orders based on physician request Performing inventories and maintains reasonable supplies.
Demonstrating knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.

Communicates problems/concerns to the Clinical Laboratory and Pathology Services Director.
Responds acceptably to priority specifications for tests Professional Requirements: Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time Uses computerized time clock correctly.
Completes departmental and hospital-wide in-services, competencies and Health Stream assignments in a timely fashion.
Attends staff meetings and actively participates, reads and returns all staff meeting minutes.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in biological science or related field.
Preferred Education: N/A Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must be able to work in a union environment.
Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications: Three to five years’ experience in Microbiology section preferred.
Two years supervisory experience preferred Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation: MT (ASCP) certification.
California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of employment) Shift: Days Hours: Varied Shift Hours: Varied Weekly Hours: 40 Type: Exempt FTE: 1.
