University Instructors, LLC is seeking talented individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, to lead, change and inspire growth for students in Culver City.
We are looking for individuals from multiple industries and backgrounds to transfer their real-world experience to the classroom while they help to successfully support students in the special education instructional program.
*Job Summary:* Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, candidates will assist with providing instructional support and assistance to teachers and students assigned to a designated special education instructional program; Individuals may be asked to perform a variety of support activities related to behavior management and classroom instruction of special education students; this may include assisting in the preparation of instructional materials and providing routine clerical support at the supervisors discretion.
Duties may include: * Under supervision of a certificated teacher candidates may support students in Special Day Class (SDC), Resource Specialist Programs (RSP) or regular classroom settings in small groups and/or on an individual 1:1 basis providing instructional support or follow up.
* Support in learning activities; assist with preparation, modification or implementation of lesson plans, instructional material or learning aids as directed by the teacher.
* Confer with teachers concerning student progress to help determine programs, activities and materials needed to meet the individual needs of the student(s) they support under the direction of the teacher.
* Arranges Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings for school staff and parents.
* Maintains student files and records as necessary, including confidential records and medical information.
* Makes Minor Adjustments on special equipment including wheelchairs, crutches, braces, standing tables and gurneys.
* Help obtain food from cafeteria or kitchens, to serve food to feed students, or help students feed themselves.
* Assist students with toileting, diapering and personal hygiene.
* Help provide simple medical care for students under the direction of the school nurse (with prior training provided by the nurse) * Other duties as assigned.
*Education and Experience:* Equivalent to graduation from high school, plus complete two years of study at an institution of higher education (college level) or forty-eight (48) semester units, including a math and an English class OR obtain an Associate’s degree or higher\* (units need to be passed with a grade of C or higher); good general background and work experience, including one year of paid or volunteer experience working with school-age children desired.
Examination Information: Basic Skills test.
\*\*The basic skills test will be waived for those applicants who have taken and passed all portions of the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
Please provide a copy of the CBEST card when submitting an application if you do not want to take the district Basic Skills Test*.
* *Essential Elements:* *Physical Requirements*: Ability to safely lift, carry, push and/or pull weights up to 120 pounds with lifting devices, lifting belts or other accommodations; ability to frequently bend at the waist and knees, kneel and squat; ability to walk, stand and sit for extended periods at a time; ability to reach above the shoulders.
*Other Requirements*: Incumbents during the probationary period are required to obtain and to subsequently maintain a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency and provide proof of certification to the Office of Human Resources.
