We are hiring Recreation Leaders and Summer Camp Counselors for the 2024 summer season!
Recreation Leader I (Part-Time Temporary)
This position may be assigned to a variety of programs/activities in the Recreation Services Division including, but not limited to, youth programs, special events, summer camp, and customer service.
Work schedule and work locations may vary.
Work locations include: West Hollywood Aquatic and Recreation Center (ARC) and Plummer Park.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including opening and closing shifts, weekends, holidays, and/or on-call status.
Work hours: approximately 20 hours per week.
Recreation Leader I Important Dates: Job Application Deadline: Thursday, February 29th at 5PM Mandatory Group interviews*: Saturday, March 23rd Recreation Summer Staff Training: Tuesday, May 28th & Wednesday, May 29th (8:30AM - 5:30PM) *Selection process: As part of the selection process, qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a group activity assessment and an interview with the Recreation Leadership Team.
The group activities and interviews will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

) Plans, organizes, implements and oversees recreation and educational programs and special events, including: developing goals; surveying and researching programs; promoting programs by developing various publicity materials; meeting with citizens/associations; organizing leagues; scheduling tournaments; distributing equipment; coordinating facility use; billing participants and collecting fees; maintaining records; interpreting rules and regulations; settling disputes; teaching/facilitating classes; booking and accompanying groups on field trips; and providing first aid.
Monitors the park, park facilities and patrons, including: unlocking and locking park and facilities; inspecting facilities; enforcing rules and regulations.
Generates and monitors program budgets.
Performs customer service functions, including: answering phones and providing information; receiving and receipting fees and taking registration information; creating and distributing brochures, flyers, etc.
; and completing cash reports.
Answers phone; takes messages; screens calls; determines nature and priority of calls; provides information to callers; receives citizen complaints; and directs calls and messages to appropriate staff member.
Orders and maintains equipment and program supplies; orders office and cleaning supplies.
Performs meeting and event set up and strike functions, including moving furniture and equipment and cleaning up.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED (desirable) One year of coursework from college or technical school desired; and, One to two years of progressively responsible related experience; or Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications: CPR/First Aid Certification (desirable) Other Requirements: Qualified candidates must pass a City-paid physical and background check prior to start date.
Candidates 18 years of age or older must complete a CPR Code 5164 Background Questionnaire.

Ability to perform mathematical calculations at the appropriate level.
