OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT:
We offer a position teaching the core World History courses in our Upper School History & Social Science curriculum and to be an active member of the Marlborough community.
Our Upper School World History courses place strong emphasis on developing historical and critical thinking skills as well as college-preparatory research and writing in the humanities and social sciences.
Each course involves a team of teachers who collaborate regularly to ensure that students in all sections have a consistent experience.
World History courses focus on the evolution of global political, cultural, and social structures and their connections to contemporary events and issues.
Special attention is paid to non-Western regions and their histories.
In addition to these classroom teaching responsibilities, this position also entails active participation in school life.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach four history classes
Collaborate with fellow history faculty in teacher teams, contributing to lesson preparation as needed
Adhere to Marlborough’s academic policies, guidelines, and expectations
Plan, prepare, and deliver academically sophisticated and pedagogically engaging lessons for the appropriate developmental level and course designation
Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators
Serve as a grade-level advisor to a group of approximately 12 students
Participate actively in department, grade-level, and school activities
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Possess, at minimum, a B.
A.
in History or another discipline in the Social Sciences.
A graduate degree in History or another discipline in the Social Sciences is strongly preferred.
Expertise in a non-Western region is also highly welcomed.
Three years of demonstrated success teaching World History at the secondary level.
Possess confidence in their disciplinary and pedagogical expertise while remaining committed to professional growth and innovation in both these areas.
Enjoys collaboration and is comfortable with designing and executing curriculum as part of a teaching team.
Possess a high degree of interest in supporting the developmental needs of teenagers with the ability to combine high expectations with a high level of support.
