org/sites/default/files/AM/) What You’ll Be Doing Graduate intern will be working in the metals section of the Materials Science Department (MSD) researching additive manufacturing (AM) materials, microstructures, materials properties, and materials characterization Correlating material properties to the additive manufacturing process and resulting microstructures Resolve design and test issues/anomalies/challenges Offer technical consultation to MSD team members and management Develop and assess design and analysis criteria, requirements, and specifications for launch and space vehicle hardware Maintain state-of-the-art skills in activities related to experimental design, data evaluation, AM builds Communicate with personnel within PSL and between organizations within Engineering, Technology Group Coordinate and actively engage with nondestructive evaluation colleagues on joint projects Prepare written and oral reports of research activities and accomplishments, and present to higher management, internal colleagues and the broader scientific community Contribute to MSD technical projects by hands-on mechanical testing, materials characterization, and additive manufacturing.
What You Need to be Successful Minimum Requirements: Currently enrolled fulltime in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in materials science and engineering, mechanical, aerospace engineering, physics, or related discipline Undergraduate degree completed by internship start date Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a degree program full-time after completion of the internship.
