Description
Directs and manages the planning, development, implementation, delivery, and evaluation/improvement of quality patient care/nursing services provided by multiple departments within Women's Health, which includes but is not limited to: Labor and Delivery, Mother-Baby, and Neonatal ICU.
Directs the delivery of services that add value and are integrated with nursing standards of practice, service priorities and performance/outcome measures, as well as with strategic, business, and organizational goals/objectives.
Directs patient care, departments' leaders and staff in the provision of nursing and patient-related services in the Women's Health Divisions.
Interprets the philosophy, objectives, operations and policies, accomplished by sophisticated strategies of creative problem-solving, critical thinking, strategic planning, business development, marketing, team development and leadership.
Knowledgeable of social, economical, legislative and legal issues affecting the health care system.
Ensures quality and safety standards are customary and demonstrated in all practices of staff.
Works in direct clinical collaboration with other leaders in the ministry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Strategic Planning: Analyzes the current healthcare environment (internal and external) to identify, assess and evaluate changes that could effect the organization.
Demonstratives ability to deal with ambiguity in relationship to the healthcare industry.
Collaborates in setting and implementing a strategic plan for Women’s Health to meet clinical care, quality and business objectives.
Develops and implements operational objectives that accomplish the goals of the strategic plan.
Participates in the development of Women’s Health goals and objectives.
Assures that the scope of service and/or standards of care for each unit in the division conform with and support the organization and/or nursing division’s philosophy.
Directs goal and objective development for each unit that contributes to organizational and/or divisional goals and reflects the unique work of the unit.
Accountable for the development and implementation of the philosophy, objectives, policies and standards for the Women’s Health.
Business Development: Evaluates opportunities/need for new programs and/or service lines.
Evaluates program/service line based on service areas, payor mix, target segments and potential market share.
Develops Operational Business Development Plans with input from and collaboration with CFO, other product line experts, Business Development Department and physician leaders.
Develops program/service line operational plans to include needed proforma, marketing strategies and implementation agenda.
Ensures appropriate program evaluation and revision.
Marketing: Evaluates and formulates marketing plan for divisional area based on the hospital mission statement and strategic plan.
Develops and implements methods to attract and maintain current customers.
Develops and implements methods to monitor customer satisfaction.
Develops and implements methods of change based on customer research and fiscal considerations.
Act as a resource to management and support staff for unit specific marketing.
Leadership: Where identified, assumes management responsibility for directing/overseeing service line.
Develops a collaborative effort between Women’s Health and the entire healthcare organization and medical staff in the areas of problem solving, risk taking and resultant change.
Functions as a consultant and role model in the development of division staff.
Demonstrates integrity and can be relied on to speak frankly.
Functions as a leader who can measure, evaluate, act, motivate and deal effectively with people.
Can calculate trouble in advance and steady the organization; excludes unnecessary interference in the internal operations of the department by being a strong and effective leader.

Acts as a resource in identifying and prioritizing the need and procurement of capital equipment.
Identifies strategies to manage budget for divisional areas.
Identifies components of variances and explains specific variations between budgeted and actual figures and recommends changes as indicated.
Develops a results-oriented environment by encouraging financial accountability and responsibility at all staff levels.
Develops and strengthens collaborative efforts between Finance, Information Systems, Patient Care Division, Information Systems and Materials Management.
Development/Information Management: Assesses and makes recommendations for development of medical information documentation systems directed at enhancing communication between caregivers and improving overall continuity of care.
Ensures the organization’s commitment to maintaining confidentiality of patient information through development, maintenance and monitoring of related policies and procedures.
Leadership/Supervision Performs a wide variety of organization and Human Resources functions including: Performance evaluation of managers and supervisors.
Recommendations of promotions, demotions, and other disciplinary actions.
Assists managers and supervisors in the proper handling of disciplinary actions.
Provides authoritative backup for managers and supervisors as part of their decision-making.
Stresses the importance of measurement in developing standards of performance.
Ensures employees practice safety standards and environment of practice is safe.

Identifies and monitors key indicators related to the functioning of the division or department results per procedure.
Ensures all Core Measures, NPSG, ACOG, AWON and other related specialty standards are integrated into practice.
QUALIFICATIONS Master's Degree in Nursing or equivalent field of study in health sciences, health administration or business Upon hire: California Registered Nurse License (Vendor Managed) 10 or more years of progressive management, five (5) of those years in women’s and/or children’s health Demonstrates knowledge of healthcare, nursing leadership and practice, patient flow methodologies and applications, program development, business modeling, budget, including experience negotiating contracts driving operational and financial improvement and execution of patient centric care models Able to establish strong team relationships and build trust and open communication with executives, managers, physicians, employees, patients and visitors Demonstrates ability to lead assessment, analysis, design and decision of strategic issues using participative planning and decision-making processes Demonstrates exceptional written and verbal communication with the ability to represent the SJHC and the Providence Health & Services in public settings Current knowledge of trends and developments in healthcare organizations, functions and processes Demonstrated analytical, conceptual, computer and quantitative skills Well-organized and follows through with details Ability to manage change, promote positive interpersonal relations and an understanding of physician alignment techniques and programs Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills in dealing with physicians, hospital and System administration peers and staff Politically savvy with the ability to work and navigate within an integrated health system.
