Description
Performs a variety of custodial tasks maintaining assigned buildings and grounds in a clean, sanitary and safe condition.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Supervision is provided by the Custodial Shift Supervisor.
Additional work direction may be provided by the Senior Head Custodian.
Examples of Duties Sweeps, mops, buffs, waxes, and seals floors.
Extracts, shampoos, spot cleans, and vacuums carpets and rugs.
Empties and cleans waste receptacles and replaces liners.
Cleans, scrubs, disinfects, polishes, and washes windows, walls, floors, furnishings, fixtures, equipment, counters, chalk and white boards.
Cleans restrooms, locker rooms, and shower rooms.
Sweeps sidewalks, stairs, and patios.
Picks-up and disposes of papers and other debris.
Cleans and sanitizes drinking fountains.
Polishes metal work and fixtures.
Replenishes supplies, fills paper and soap dispensers.
Secures internal and external entry and exit doors, ensuring windows are locked and lights are turned off.
Identifies and reports to supervisor needed repairs and vandalism.
Makes minor non-technical repairs and adjustments to school equipment and buildings (e.
g.
, replaces light bulbs, adjusts shades and blinds, uses a plunger to unclog restrooms, adjusts desks and other furniture, adjust thermostats, change vacuum brushes, etc.
).
Rearranges, assembles, and moves furniture and equipment (e.
g.
, chairs, tables, barriers, floor mats, etc.
) in and between rooms, auditoriums, and/or gymnasiums as needed.
Drives electric cart to assist in performance of other duties (e.
g.
, moving tables and other furniture, bringing trash emptied from waste receptacles to dumpsters, etc.
).
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of: Current materials and equipment used for cleaning.
Proper use of cleaning disinfectants, materials, tools and equipment related to custodial work.
Safe work practices and sanitary regulations.
Safe and proper use and storage of hazardous and toxic substances.
Ability to: Use custodial cleaning supplies and equipment.
Operate maintenance equipment (e.
g.
, aerolift, vacuum cleaner, buffer, small power and hand tools, etc.
) as assigned.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Meet schedules and timelines.
Work independently.
Observe and report needed maintenance and repairs.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and public communication.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: 6 months of custodial or janitorial experience.
License: Possession of a valid State of California Class C driver's license.
