*REPORTS TO*: CFO
*HOURS*: 40 hours per week.
*CLASSIFICATION*: Exempt *SALARY*: DOE *SUMMARY*: The Accountant I / II will provide accounting support to the CFO in compiling, reconciling, and reporting of financial information to provide management with accurate, and timely financial data for decision making.
*DUTIES*: Primary duties include, but are not limited to the following: * Prepare and maintain select Balance Sheet Schedules monthly, including grant roll forward and contract summaries and related audit schedules.
Prepare journal entries as appropriate.
* Facilitate and complete monthly closing, including but not limited to preparation and processing of journal entries and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
* Verify correct posting of A/R billing to G/L.
Prepare related journal entries and enter into accounting software as appropriate.
* Prepares weekly cash position report for management.
* Assist the CFO with internal/external auditors.
Prepare lead/supporting schedules and other audit work papers as necessary.
* Monitor and analyze work to develop and implement more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
* Maintains strict confidentiality of payroll records and related issues.
* Prepare all Payroll journal entries including worker’s compensation, Vacation liability for salaried employee payroll.
* Participates in process improvement research projects and implements approved process changes.
* Participates in educational opportunities.
* Other duties as assigned *QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):* Degree in Accounting/Business or 5-7 years similar work experience.
Previous non-profit history is helpful.
Advanced PC skills required: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc,) ACCPAC, MAS90 or similar accounting software necessary.
A specific knowledge of fund, cost accounting and real estate experience helpful.
Candidate should be quick learner, with a strong ability to adapt to change.
Position requires good organizational skills with the ability to work with minimal oversight.
Strong verbal and written communication skills needed.
Valid California driver’s license and insurance required.
*SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION*: Work with people experiencing homelessness whether on the streets, in shelters or other places of habitation or services, may present inherent challenges and difficulties such as: exposure to bed bugs or other infestations, unpleasant smells or odors, individuals who may have poor hygiene or unclean homes due to homelessness, mental health symptoms, or poverty.
Additionally, in working with our members, employees may encounter instances of profanity, sexually explicit or derogatory language, or verbal or physical expressions of anger and trauma.
Very rarely do these situations ever escalate to physical contact, and negative or derogatory communication patterns can often be negotiated successfully.
All direct care staff are provided adequate training to develop skills to deescalate crisis situations that may arise and Step Up has established procedural safeguards for all employees to mitigate (but not eliminate) these inherent risks of employment.
*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear.
The employee is frequently required to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
