As the Executive Director of Development for the International Institute, you will be responsible for building and sustaining a development program designed to increase philanthropic support of the Institute's highest priority needs as determined by our leadership team.

As a member of the Institute and UCLA External Affairs, you will join a dynamic, collaborative and innovative team that offers long-term opportunities for professional development and growth.
The International Institute at UCLA is the university's bridge to the world, with close to 30 interdisciplinary research centers and graduate and undergraduate degree programs focusing on major world regions and global themes.
As the principal officer for the Institute's advancement efforts, you will plan and implement a comprehensive development program in partnership with the Vice Provost and leadership team of the International Institute and in accordance with established academic priorities.
In consultation with the Vice Provost, other Institute leaders, College Development, campus administrators, academic leaders and senior development professionals, as our Executive Director, you will provide leadership to development projects targeted to benefit the International Institute and other academic units.
You will serve as a staff resource and provide counsel on strategic directions and interactions related to international prospects and donors; will develop strategies to identify and cultivate individual, corporate and foundation prospects and will determine market feasibility for academic priorities and provide advice and counsel to Vice Provost.
In this role, you will also identify and recruit high-level volunteers to provide insight and guidance with regard to development issues in the international arena as well as formulate specific solicitation and other programmatic elements as necessary.
As the Executive Director, you will manage and provide leadership, oversight and strategic direction to professional development staff that develop and implement comprehensive development efforts for the centers and programs within the Institute.
Acting as a vital representative for the University, you will articulate the mission of the University and development goals to the public and will facilitate the opportunity to foster special relationships with members of the international community.
** Please note, this is a hybrid position.
** Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 8:00 am Shift End: 5:00 pm Qualifications for Position 14 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred 1.
Seven or more years of progressive responsibility and experience as a professional development officer or similar experience in a nonprofit, membership/volunteer driven or related environment.
Required 2.
Expert knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fundraising in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity.
Required 3.
International experience, knowledge of diverse cultures, and intercultural communication skills, especially in relation to Los Angeles and California.
Required 4.
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement a comprehensive development or similar program of comparable size and complexity including the ability to envision and articulate future direction.
Required 5.
Demonstrated experience in soliciting high-level major gifts and/or prior experience with solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.
Required 6.
Appropriate management and administrative skills needed to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate other professionals and volunteers.
Required 7.
Excellent communication skills to express, both orally and in writing, the mission of the University and the fundraising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to the UCLA International Institute.
Required 8.
Effective verbal communication skills to make persuasive oral presentations to senior management and internal and external constituencies; conduct participatory meetings; gain acceptance of decisions; and advise and collaborate with others.
Required 9.
Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with academic leaders, faculty, staff, donors and volunteers.
Required 10.
Strong strategic thinking skills aligned with the ability to implement and follow through.
Required 11.
Strong supervisory skills to oversee and evaluate the efforts of professional fundraisers.
Required 12.
Steadfast commitment to work of impeccable integrity with strong analytical and organizational skills to develop creative, credible solutions, recommendations and programs as well to define and implement special fundraising and/or program related projects.
Required 13.
Some travel and ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Required 14.
Bachelor's degree is preferred.
