Primary Purpose
SoCalGas is seeking an experienced litigation attorney to both represent the Company and manage outside counsel representing the Company in litigation matters.
The position is based in downtown Los Angeles, with at least three days in the office.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Independently handle varied assigned litigation matters and represent the Company in court.
Lawsuits primarily consist of the defense of personal injury, wrongful death and property damage claims, and business litigation.
* Manage complex litigation by partnering with outside counsel.
* Provide legal advice and counsel to the Company, including its Claims Department.
* Work with all business clients to analyze and assess potential claims, including resolving such disputes without litigation.
* Provide advice and counsel to business units and other client groups, including advising on risk mitigation with respect to highly complex, technical and/or sensitive issues.
* Provide legal advice and counsel to client groups regarding potential liability issues that may arise in business transactions and other business activities.
* Ensure that Law Department management and/or business unit leadership stay regularly informed regarding litigation matters.

Education
* Requires a Bachelor's degree and J.
D.
or L.
L.
B.
from an ABA accredited law school.
Top academic credentials desired.
Experience
* 8 or more years of litigation experience at a law firm, including complex matters.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Jury trial experience is preferred
* Strong analytical and writing ability
* Excellent oral advocacy and communication skills
* Maturity of judgment and conduct
* Willingness to learn, accept new challenges, and work on a team.
* Some travel may be required
* Familiarity with the California Public Utilities Commission is not required but is desirable.
Licenses & Certifications
* Member in good standing of the State Bar of California
