*Paralegal I or II - Homelessness Prevention Advocacy Project for Disabled Tenants* *LACBA Counsel for Justice (CFJ)* is the charitable arm of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Through its pro bono-based projects, CFJ has been bringing together the Los Angeles legal community to provide access to justice for the most vulnerable in our community for over 50 years.
With the support of LACBA and our many volunteers, CFJ’s staff of 15 employees, including seven attorneys, assists thousands of people access their legal rights each year.
CFJ’s Homelessness Prevention Advocacy Project has assisted over a hundred disabled veterans and persons living with HIV or AIDS since its creation in 2021, through a continuum of services from legal information to full scope representation.
CFJ is seeking a paralegal for its *Homelessness Prevention Advocacy Project* (Project) which has been providing remote legal services and monthly in-person services at the downtown LA Law Library.
Under the supervision of CFJ’s Directing Attorney – Veterans and AIDS, this position will work alongside the two Project Attorneys to assist with preparing, filing, and serving responsive pleadings for tenants in Unlawful Detainer matters and support staff and pro bono volunteers in full-scope representation in Unlawful Detainer proceedings.
*Note:* This is a hybrid position with on-site assistance at the LA Law Library and LACBA headquarters in downtown Los Angeles.
*Principal Duties and Responsibilities:* * Conduct intake and screening.
* Assist clients in gathering supporting documents.
* Assist with preparing answers, fee waivers, and jury demands.
* Assist with filing and serving court paperwork.
* Assist with supporting full scope pro bono representation, including research.
* Assist with Project management activities such as scheduling, record keeping, data collection, and reporting.

S.
degree.
* Paralegal Certificate from ABA-accredited program.
* One year of experience working as a paralegal.
* Experience in housing law (strongly preferred).
* Demonstrated skills in leadership, organization and problem solving.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience and sensitivity with people in crisis.
* Experience working with veterans and/or persons living with HIV or AIDS (preferred).
* Excellent bilingual oral, reading, and writing skills in both English and Spanish (preferred).
*Compensation and Benefits:* This is a full-time position at a rate of $27-$35 per hour.
