The Matian firm provides high-quality representation and legal services to immigrants in California.
Post-conviction relief work entails case analysis, advocacy, and litigation before the California state criminal courts on overlapping issues involving constitutional, criminal, and immigration laws.
The Matian firm seeks a full-time PCR Attorney, based in our Los Angeles office, to primarily work on preparing and litigating post-conviction relief for individuals facing deportation proceedings, as well as providing research and evaluation of criminal issues in removal defense cases.
The PCR Attorney will work under the direct supervision of our Supervising PCR Attorney experienced in post-conviction relief.
Our attorneys receive support from paralegals, and administrative assistants.
*Essential Functions:*
* Prepare and litigate post -conviction relief petitions and motions in California criminal courts;
* Provide research and analysis of criminal immigration issues relevant to our removal defense cases.
* Stay up to date on rapidly changing criminal and immigration laws and policies as they relate to criminal immigration issues.
* Comply with data and program reporting requirements.
* Participate in advocacy and policy work related to crimmigration issues.
* Support post-conviction dockets of individuals seeking relief from wrongful convictions.
* Communicate with clients.
* Craft litigation strategy.
* Assist in post-conviction factual re-investigations.
* Advocate for clients with prosecutors.
* Author motions, briefs, and litigation correspondence.
* Represent clients as part of in-court legal teams.

*Required Education and Experience:*
* J.
D.
, and 1-3 years applicable experience;
* Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under pressure;
* Passion for social justice for immigrants required;
* Client-centered approach to legal representation and demonstrated commitment to defending people who have been accused or convicted of crimes and working to change the criminal legal system and preferred interest in innocence work.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.
