New Los Angeles Elementary Charter School (New LA) is seeking high energy, well organized teachers
who have proven success in the upper elementary grades and are seeking a small school environment
where they have the ability to share in the school's leadership and shape the school's future.
New LA is
looking for teachers who have a desire to become teacher-leaders and are outstanding educators.

BACKGROUND
New LA Elementary opened in August of 2016 with 110 TK, kindergarten and first grade students, and
added a grade each year until we became a full TK-5.
Building on the success of our Middle School,
which opened in 2008, New LA Elementary continues the vision of Passion for Learning, Respect for Self
and Others and Engagement in the Community.
CURRICULUM
New LA seeks teachers with expertise, interest and willingness to learn in the following areas:
Project-based and student-centered learning
Balanced Literacy Instruction: Readers and Writers Workshop
Math: Cognitively Guided Instruction methodologies
Science: Kit-based experiments, full transition to NGSS, environmental awareness
Social Studies: integrated with language arts, social justice embedded
Computer Coding: taught with a partner organization, professional development provided
Arts Integration: partnering with arts education organizations to provide art both integrated with
regular curriculum and in specific arts classes.
TEACHER LEADERSHIP
At New LA, teachers play an important role in shaping the culture of the school and acting as leaders as
the school continues to grow over the coming years.
Teachers participate in school decision-making,
collaborate on curriculum, scheduling and programs, and will be deeply invested in the mission, culture
and success of the school.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Provide a supportive, student-centered learning environment for students;
Guide students to mastery of the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science
Standards and California Frameworks;
Use data to inform practice, including participation in school wide benchmarking and intervention;
Create a nurturing and caring classroom environment for all students;
Communicate effectively w/ parents about student academic progress & social emotional needs;
Participate in social justice and community engagement activities;
Work well as a team player to prepare students for success;

Serve as a positive role model;
Collaborate with co-teachers and colleagues – in grade levels, committees, and full faculty;
Provide accommodations and support in accordance with IEPs when applicable;
Demonstrate a commitment to the whole child, with concern for each student’s academic and
social-emotional well-being;
Facilitate an “open door classroom,” where best practice is shared with colleagues and visitors,
and where all staff members embrace their role as learners.
QUALIFICATIONS
California Multiple Subject Credential (or be enrolled in a university program and intern eligible);
Teaching experience at the elementary level and enjoy working with elementary school students;
Demonstrated classroom excellence, differentiated instruction & student-centered methodologies;
Commitment to the mission and values of New LA;
Actively engages with and supports the school's social justice mission and demonstrates a
commitment to intersectional, anti-racist education;
Be flexible and be a team player;
Positive outlook, enjoy collaborating with colleagues and appreciate different points of view;
Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
COMPENSATION
Certificated faculty members are compensated on the LAUSD Salary Scale for teachers plus an
additional 1%.
Faculty members receive a generous package of medical benefits, and enrollment in the
California State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) retirement plan.
Faculty members can choose to
participate in an optional 403b plan.
