Role Overview:
The Music Teacher Assistant – Non-Public School (NPS) – Vista School assists the teacher in developing and carrying out Music curriculum and behavior modification for Special Education students.
Work effectively with the teacher and other school staff by maintaining effective communication regarding students, other work-related matters and assisting to maintain consistent behavior management programs and matters related to academic curriculum.
Understand the Special Education population and continue to develop skills and knowledge in working with Special Education students.
Provide 1:1 assistance and working in small groups with students.
Essential Job Duties:
Attend required meetings, in-services, and trainings for continued professional growth.
• Modeling the appropriate behavior that is expected of staff.
• Establishing and maintaining clear and appropriate physical and verbal boundaries with students.
• Assist classroom teacher with teaching students to play songs on a variety of instruments, rehearsing solos, duets,
trios, and bands as needed.
• Completion and submission of Incident Reports in the required time frame by district contracts.
• Responsible for taking daily attendance, student files/documents and other classroom files.
• Assist with instrument maintenance.
Qualifications:
Ability to play and teach multiple instruments.
• Ability to read and notate music.
• Ability to perform or learn to perform basic instrument maintenance of all classroom instruments.
• Willingness to develop a basic proficiency on new instruments as well as to learn to read/write guitar/bass/ukulele
tablature.
• Open to working within a wide variety of musical genres.
What You Bring to VDM:
Education & Experience
• BA/BS Degree in Music/Music education preferred.
Proof of passing the CBEST and/or 30-Day Substitute Credential.
• Some classroom or recreational experience preferred.
• Experience with working with Special Education Students.
• Ability to hear and verbally communicate with others.
• Present to assist with performances during school hours.
• COVID Vaccination Card (fully vaccinated) required.
