Position Summary:
The School Age Youth Bus Driver is responsible for the supervision, safety and transportation of children enrolled in all YMCA school age programs, and for the care and maintenance of YMCA vehicles.
Job Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduate or GED, undergraduate degree preferred.
At least 18 years old.
Minimum of three years experience working with children.
Current Class B license with a P Passenger Endorsement, Youth Bus Certificate, and proven record of good driving experience (H6 record form from DMV).
Physicians release of current DOT Physical.
Mandatory clearance through California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Minimum one year experience driving children/youth in a school bus.
Certification requirements include, within 30 days of hire, CPR/AED and First Aid; Child Abuse Prevention.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate with parents, coworkers, campers and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise indoor and outdoor program activities; ability to tolerate moderate to high noise levels; verbal, visual and auditory ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT:
Ensures the safety of children at all times by preventing accidents through the enforcement of rules, regulations and ordinances governing the conduct of the children while being transported.
Operates vehicle in a safe manner and observes all safety regulations.
Maintains physical presence with children in the vehicle while parked or transporting.
Responds immediately and effectively to all emergency situations.
Maintains a well-equipped first aid kit and communicates any supply needs to supervisor.
Reports actual and potential hazards and unsafe conditions to Transportation Director.
Conducts daily thorough pre-driving inspection according to guidelines and regulations and reports any needed repairs, maintenance or equipment needs to Transportation Coordinator.
Maintains accurate attendance record for all children being transported each day and submits record to Transportation Director weekly.
Completes incident reports as needed and submits them immediately.
Adheres to the substitution policy: drivers are responsible for securing their own substitutes for any planned time off, ensuring that shifts are covered, and informing the Transportation Coordinator of substitutions.
Fuels vehicle as needed and ensures vehicle is clean and free from trash.
Attends all staff meetings and trainings.
SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT:
Adheres to all safety policies, rules and standard operating procedures established by the YMCA.
Reports all injuries and accidents, no matter how minor, immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
Immediately reports all observed unsafe acts and conditions to the supervisor.
Always reports to work in an acceptable condition, not under the influence of any substance that could inhibit the ability to work safety or efficiently.
