WATG is hiring a Senior Project Architect for our office in Los Angeles, California.
ROLE The Senior Project Architect is a licensed architect, experienced in mid-to-large scale, complex projects, with major project responsibilities in the delivery of a successful design project and accountable for its financial performance.
The Senior Project Architect balances technical requirements with the design vision and intent.
The Senior Project Architect takes ownership in the comprehensive study and documentation of the project during its development and execution, and is responsible for communication, heightened design capability and improved document execution.
The Senior Project Architect drives collaboration of a diverse internal and external project team; maximizes the use of available resources; and coordinates with client representatives, consultants, and contractors always working within budgets and schedules.
RESPONSIBILITIES Plans and develops projects of medium to large scope and interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates assignments Defines the scope, selection, and development of novel concepts and methods Incorporates the overall design intent of the project established by the Project Designer into the detailed documentation Adds value to the development of design studies and understands the design intent to enhance the consistency and quality of design as technical issues arise and are resolved Monitors the design process from the conceptual phase through construction administration, ensuring the design idea is consistent and properly executed Manages the technical resolution and coordination of the project Reports on the progress of assigned tasks during the schematic design, design development, and construction document phases; manages assigned project team and reviews labor hours spent against budgeted labor estimates; and monitors completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations for accuracy Sets the overall strategy in the production of project documents according to standards Communicates the requirements for scope, schedule, costs, and budget for each task Ensures that construction detail documentation and drawings conform to quality assurance, quality control, and best practice standards Manages and coordinates the preparation of technical drawings and specifications Regularly communicates with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews, and delivery of final presentation Documents and writes reports to consultants and vendors to issue changes and track resolutions Attends on-site visits, participates in field reviews and project meetings, and coordinates the review of contractors’ schedules, and submission of shop drawings Participates in team meetings to manage project and technical issues Prepares meeting minutes Mentors and directs the work of team members, reviews their work, and provides development opportunities Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects Fosters a green workplace through sustainable work practices May participate in business development opportunities QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Architecture Professional license required Environmental accreditation preferred 15+ years of experience managing small to mid-size architectural projects, including urban and resort hotels Proficiency in technical skills, including Revit, AutoCAD, and 3D modeling software, such as Rhino and SketchUp Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems, integrated design, trends, construction methodology, QA/QC process, CA process, building codes, and the ability to research and apply to technical documents Experienced in client management, project management, and negotiations Ability to work in a team environment and supervise others Ability to effectively meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities Highly effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills *Please include a copy of your resume and portfolio to be considered for this position.
