SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
Chrome Hearts is in search of an experienced CAD Designer to join our Eyewear development and manufacturing team.
In this role, you will be responsible for creating 3D geometry for intricate products and tooling, generating 2D drawings, and preparing manufacturing and quality control documents.
This role bridges the gap between the creative phase and serial manufacturing, requiring expertise in product development, manufacturing processes, tooling, and document management—all primarily conducted on a 3D CAD platform.
Essential Functions:
Create detailed 3D geometry, documents, and 2D drawings based on input from cross-functional teams, including product engineering, process development, CAM, manufacturing, and QC.
Design finished products, tooling, fixtures, and comprehensive technical documentation packages to support manufacturing and quality control.
Play a crucial role in the team's efforts to develop new or adapted manufacturing processes and equipment.
Apply expertise in material properties and process tolerances to design moving parts and complex assemblies.
Proficiently handle various materials, including precious metals, plastics, wood, tool steel, aluminum, and 3D-printed materials for component design and assembly.
Adapt insights from existing manufacturing processes, product designs, and materials to influence future development projects.
Effectively communicate and comprehend complex concepts through visual, verbal, and written means.
Process information from multiple sources and formats to create a comprehensive design package for interfacing with manufacturing and suppliers.
Organize and store information digitally.
Familiarity with rapid prototype CNC manufacturing processes is advantageous.
Stay updated on current and historical design trends within the company.
Interface with the data management system is a plus.
Inspect physical parts against the 3D model, generating reports on deviations, and collaborating within a team to address issues and enhance processes.
Requirements:
More than 4 years of 3D modeling experience in an industrial setting with direct interaction with the manufacturing team.
Familiarity with Rhino 7 software is advantageous; training is provided if needed.
Experience in tooling design.
Knowledge of CNC machining processes, software, and tools is a plus.
Ability to design for both manufacturability and aesthetics.
Proficiency in developing manufacturing documents, including BOMs, assembly drawings, basic schedules, and costing.
Skilled in conceptualizing and refining ideas through group brainstorming sessions.
Excellent organizational skills.
Familiarity with 3D printing is advantageous.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities.
Keen attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Capacity for independent thinking and problem-solving, with a proven ability to work independently with limited direction and high motivation.
