Job Summary This Community Services Department is seeking to fill several Child Care Counselor positions.
Both Part-time Hourly and Part-time Regular schedules are available: Part-time Hourly - Work hours will not exceed 19 hours a week.
Part-time Regular - Work hours will be 25 hours or more per week.
Schedule will be Monday - Friday, 12pm - 6pm and may include some evening and weekends as needed for special events and facility coverage.

All part-time, temporary, and seasonal workers are at-will employees.
About the Position: Definition: To plan and implement recreational activities for youth, and to provide technical support to an assigned supervisor.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the journey level in the single level, part-time Child Care Counselor technical class.
Supervision Received and Exercised: Receives general supervision from an assigned supervisor.
Benefits: Part-time Regular employees are eligible for health, dental, and retirement benefits as provided by the Municipal Employees Association of Beverly Hills Part-time Unit Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Selection Process: Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and whose interests and experience appear to meet the desired qualifications of the position will be invited to participate in the next steps of the recruitment process which may include: Oral Interview Conviction History As a finalist for a job, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the California Department of Social Services (CDSS).
The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you are a finalist.
Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with the City.
If you are selected as a finalist, you will be contacted to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.
The State of California also requires Childcare workers to complete a physical exam which includes Tuberculosis Screening (T.
B.
test) prior to hire.
Conclusion Verification: Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point during the recruitment and selection process.
Note: Falsifying one's education, training, or work experience or attempted deception on the application may result in disqualification for this and future job opportunities with the City of Beverly Hills.
Disaster Service Workers: All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).
Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
Major Duties Examples of Essential Duties:Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Supervise elementary school children ages 4 -13 years old; maintain attendance records.
Plan and implement daily activity plans.
Prepare and serve snacks; monitor lunchtime activities.
Chaperone off-site field trips.
Maintain a clean and safe environment.
Monitor and inventory supplies and equipment.
Depending upon assignment, may draft and edit scripts for musical productions or coordinate sports and games.
Provide homework assistance.
Facilitates parent communication and response to concerns Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices and protocols, methods and procedures.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Experience and Training Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: One year of responsible experience in recreation or child development.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by 6 units of college coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field or any combination of these.
License and Certificate Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid CPR certification within 60 days of hire.
Possession of, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire 15 hours of health and safety training that should include the following components: Pediatric First Aid; Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); a preventive health course or courses that include instruction in the recognition, management, and prevention of infectious diseases, including immunizations, and prevention of childhood injuries.
The training may include instruction in sanitary food handling, emergency preparedness and evacuation, and caring for children with special needs.
Note: Candidate who successfully completed the selection process must complete live scan fingerprinting with FBI, Department of Justice (DOJ), & California Department of Social Services (CDSS) for background check purposes.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of: Principles and techniques of child development.
Methods of instruction in theater, art, music, dance or sports.
Ability to: Plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate activities.
Prepare lesson plans for children ages 4-13.
Use sound judgment in recognizing scope of authority.
Operate and use modern office equipment including computers and applicable software.
Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.
Utilize appropriate safety procedures and practices for assigned duties.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Hourly employees are enrolled in PARS (PARS- Public Alternate Retirement System).
All Hourly/Seasonal employees contribute 6.
2% each pay period and the City contributes 1.
3% each pay period into this plan.
The City complies with California Labor Code 245-249 by providing paid sick leave for part-time hourly employees at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked.
If an employee reaches 1,000 hours within a fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th), they are then enrolled in PERS (Public Employees Retirement System).
