Work with the Center for the Study of Los Angeles' (StudyLA) senior leadership to respond to the needs of Los Angeles by providing research and administrative assistance on current and new research projects.
Position Specific Responsibilities: Supports StudyLA in its mission to assist students, faculty, and the University become agents for social justice.
Supports senior leadership in the planning, programming, and execution of research projects and associated activities.
Examples of research projects include but are not limited to the State of Black Los Angeles and the Angeleno Poll.
Gathers and organizes project-related information and assists with project-related data/information collection, management and reporting.
Conducts quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
Helps prepare and write research reports, academic papers, and articles for the popular press.
Provides support to StudyLA's programs, including planning and scheduling meetings and events.
Expands relationships within the university, the Los Angeles community, other academic communities, and other relevant individuals and organizations Helps represent StudyLA at professional activities and meetings, both inside and outside the university.
Given the wide variety of StudyLA's work, handles multiple tasks and organizes and prioritizes workload efficiently; must use reasoning and judgment when dealing with interruptions from multiple stakeholders (researchers, students, faculty, staff, etc.
).
Initiates and completes various projects and tasks simultaneously, using a great deal of independent judgment; produce clear and comprehensive reports and correspondence Demonstrates cultural sensitivity, leadership, professionalism, and sound decision-making ability; work respectfully with people from all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds Performs duties with speed and accuracy.
Hires, trains, and supervises work study students.
Performs other duties as assigned by StudyLA's senior leadership.

Requisite Qualifications: Typically, has earned a bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Master's degree is a plus.
Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
Minimum 1-year of demonstrated success in a research field related to public opinion, urban, social, or political science (multiple experiences may be combined, especially in the case of college experiences) Possesses strong research skills.
Proven ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative data analyses using various techniques and data sources.
Has experience and/or knowledge in methods in social science field, such as political science, urban/intercultural studies, sociology, or related social science field is preferred.
Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail; follow through Inspires new ideas and fresh approaches Has a high energy and passion for the LMU and StudyLA missions Has a flexible and adaptable style.
Ability to be proactive and able to anticipate the needs of the StudyLA and implement a course of action.
Exhibits excellent communication skills, both written and oral; possess excellent writing, grammar, proofreading, and punctuation skills.
Understands modern office practices, procedures, and use of equipment; knowledge of software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point).
Interest in policy issues or urban politics is a plus.
Possesses the ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who productively engages with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside of LMU.
