In that tradition, Bet Tzedek, the House of Justice offers free legal services to undocumented youth in need of assistance securing Special Immigrant Juvenile Status and adjusting to lawful permanent resident status.
Bet Tzedek assists unaccompanied minors under California Probate Court jurisdiction as well as foster children.
Bet Tzedek is seeking an earnest, organized, and focused Spanish/English bilingual administrative assistant to support advocates with the representation of unaccompanied children in removal proceedings and the adjustment of status process.
This position is eligible for Bet Tzedek Legal Services’ hybrid/remote workplace designation.
While the primary workplace is Bet Tzedek’s offices, at the discretion of the immediate supervisor, the employee may be permitted to work remotely or may be required to work in other locations depending on workload/business obligations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Data entry and data management, scanning, copying, and processing case files and records.
Clearly and professionally communicate with clients, staff, pro bono counsel, volunteers, community partners, as needed.
Assist in conducting intakes for potential clients as needed.
Work collaboratively with advocates to develop and maintain consistent procedures for immigration matters from initial intake to case completion and file closure.
Comply with case management and reporting procedures, including maintaining case data entry to ensure data is up-to-date and accurate for grant reports.
Conduct follow-up communications with clients and assist with fact gathering and securing evidence.
Provide other general administrative support as requested.
Requirements:
AA/AS and/or BA/BS or equivalent work/life experience (required).
Proficiency with MS Office and legal database (including Word; Power Point; Excel; Lexis Nexis/Westlaw) (required).
At least one year of law firm or legal nonprofit experience (required).
Spanish proficiency and ability to provide Spanish/English written translation and oral interpretation (required).
Proficiency with NetDocuments or other web-based document management system (preferred).
One year of experience working in immigration legal services (preferred).
Demonstrated patience, compassion, respect, and commitment to serving low-income persons (required).
