What We Do The Community Development Department of the City of Beverly Hills is responsible for the review and processing of development projects including land entitlements, zoning and plan review, inspection services, permit issuance, and code enforcement.
It also oversees programs such as rent control/stabilization, transportation planning, historic preservation program, animal control and records requests.
Community Development also provides staff assistance to 4 city commissions; including, Planning, Architectural, Design Review, and Cultural Heritage.
What We're Looking For The City of Beverly Hills is seeking an outstanding graduate student in a field related to urban design, historical preservation, or architecture for Administrative Intern in the Community Development Department to support the Urban Design Division.
The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable with computer graphics programs and reading architectural plans.
Please note: Compensation is based on student's current enrollment status.
Administrative Intern - Graduate level: $18.

41 Selection Process Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and whose interests and experience most closely meet the needs of the Department may be invited to participate in the next steps of the recruitment process which may include: Writing Sample Oral Interview Conviction History As a finalist for a job, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you are a finalist.
Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with the City.
If you are selected as a finalist, you will be contacted to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.
Conclusion Verification: Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point during the recruitment and selection process.

Disaster Service Workers: All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).
Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
Major Duties Under general supervision, the undergraduate student provides short-term staff support to all City departments, divisions, functions or special projects; assists in performing specific and miscellaneous duties as assigned and does related work as required.
The position will expose students to career options within a Municipal Government environment.
Some of the core duties include, but are not limited to: Assists in analyzing data Assists in collecting data for department studies, functions, and/or projects.
Assists in budget preparation and maintenance.
Assists in administrative and clerical support activities as needed.
Assists in preparation of Commission meetings and packets.
Attends Commission meetings, City Council sessions.
May assist in preparation of agenda statements, administrative regulations, procedural manuals, revision of rules and regulations, resolutions, press releases, etc.
Interacts with the public in person or via telephone.
Prepares reports and summaries.
Uses a computer and maintains appropriate records and files.
Performs basic research.
May participate in a "Rotational Internship" assisting various departments or in a "Department - Assigned Internship".
Performs related duties as required Minimum Qualifications Current enrollment at an accredited College or University and in good standing is required for an Undergraduate Student Intern.
Current enrollment in an accredited college or university is required.
Coursework in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Industrial Psychology or related field is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge: Must have general knowledge of research methods and techniques.
Must have a strong desire to work in a public service oriented environment.
Skills: Must have good organizational skills.
Ability to: Prepare and present a variety of concise reports.
Independently understand facts and draw sound conclusions.
Analyze and problem solve.
Work effectively and communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Use computers and learn computer programs Follow directions and complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
Hourly employees are enrolled in PARS (PARS- Public Alternate Retirement System).
All Hourly/Seasonal employees contribute 6.
2% each pay period and the City contributes 1.
3% each pay period into this plan.
The City complies with California Labor Code 245-249 by providing paid sick leave for part-time hourly employees at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked.
If an employee reaches 1,000 hours within a fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th), they are then enrolled in PERS (Public Employees Retirement System).
