POSITION: Under general supervision, interprets and implements the direction of the Library to assigned staff members in the areas of supervision, Board policy, procedures, programs, and collection maintenance.

Works in collaboration with the Library Manager to set performance expectations and customer service goals for staff.
Actively contributes to the management team to ensure high-quality library services and resources are delivered to customers.
Supports, promotes, implements, and makes decisions based on established Library policies, guidelines, and programs.
Oversees the provision of information service, readers' advisory service, and programming/outreach services to users of varied ages, cultures, and skill levels;
Trains, supervises, and evaluates librarian staff.
Accurately assesses staff abilities.
Develops staff strengths and coaches staff to improve performance.
Oversees the development and maintenance of information resources and materials that customers use.
Seeks creative and appropriate solutions to address varying operational needs, embraces effective change, and demonstrates flexibility in changing community needs.
Exercises good judgment when making decisions and applying policies to workplace issues.
Models continuous learning and holds staff accountable for continued professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Library and Information Science AND four years of progressively responsible experience as a Librarian or higher to include two years in a supervisory capacity.
Knowledgeable of City and Department policies and procedures, community resources and customer service techniques and concepts, supervision principles, and procedures for coding and cataloging Library material;
Skilled in working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments, developing and implementing library programs and services, and establishing and maintaining positive and productive working relationships;
Ability to independently resolve day-to-day issues or conflicts, exercise sound judgment in decision making, effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and perform essential duties with minimum supervision; train staff on assignments, and provide precise detail of expectations of programs;
Proficient in using work-related computer applications, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, the internet, and other electronic devices to perform essential job duties.
THE SELECTION PROCESS: Applicants whose experience best meets the City's needs will be invited to participate in the examination for this position.
Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process.
The examination may consist of one or more of the following: (1) Training & Experience Evaluation, (2) Writing Exercise, and (3) Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts.
Candidates must receive a score of 70 or higher to have their names placed on the active eligibility list for one year.
The top three ranks on the Eligibility List will have their application materials forwarded to the hiring authority for a selection interview.
Eligible candidates who are not selected names will be returned to the eligibility list for future consideration with other departments within the City when feasible.
All newly hired employees serve a probationary period of one year and can be released from service with or without cause during the probationary period.
