The Role
Metropolis is seeking a DevOps Engineer to implement and maintain our cloud infrastructure that provides end-to-end support of our suite of mobility products.
As a member of the Platform Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to design, build and maintain systems that help connect the dots between all parts of the Metropolis ecosystem – hardware, machine learning, web and mobile applications, and more.
In this role, you will be expected to leverage your experience to build durable, sustainable and scalable infrastructure systems, while continually looking for opportunities to increase automation and efficiency.
You will work closely with members of the Platform Engineering team to define requirements and support the build, test and deployment of software into production.
Responsibilities
• Manage and extend our AWS infrastructure, including across multiple regions and accounts
• Implement security best practices for access management, encryption, vulnerabilities, and secrets management
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines for critical applications and contribute to performance improvements
• Monitor application and infrastructure metrics for performance, availability, and incident response
• Maintain and patch Linux systems and corresponding container infrastructure
• Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual processes involved in managing cloud infrastructure
• Implement DNS, routing, VPNs and other network services as needed to enable scaled operations
• Influence engineers to improve deployment, configuration and operational practices
Requirements and Qualifications
• MS or BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
• 3+ year’s experience as a DevOps or Infrastructure Engineer
• Expert-level experience using Terraform to manage AWS at scale
• Proficiency with Linux administration and scripting; Experience with edge device fleets a plus
• Strong working knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code concepts, containers, and container orchestration
• Understanding of CI/CD principles and experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar
• Strong grasp of networking concepts – DNS, VPNs, routing protocols; Experience with gRPC a plus.
• Comfortable with Infrastructure-as-Code, GitOps, and declarative automation approaches
• Experience using RDS, Redis, Kafka or SQS a plus
• Professional exposure to development of large-scale, high-quality systems and software products, preferably in high volume consumer facing applications
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
• Preferred local to the Seattle or Santa Monica areas.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $120,000.

The actual base pay offered is determined by a number of variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location of residence and/or place of employment.
Base pay is one component of Metropolis’s total compensation package, which may also include access to or eligibility for healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a lucrative stock option plan, bonus plans and more.
